H2

Camping! Some sites are magical and I felt this magic at site H2. All the creativity was re-energized at this special spot off the beach trail, with majestic cedars all around.

This will be in the Artist Choice show at the O'Connor Art Gallery starting this week.

Mini Leather Jacket Girl

This is a chalk pastel that started while I was sitting at the Art Gallery. 14x 17 inches.

First Day of Ballet

Thank you Ana for the amazing water colour pencils and paper. Here's my first attempt. It's really the little one's first class and she was more interested in the tap class...she peaked until the curtain was closed.

This is a 8.5x11piece on "fancy" water colour paper.

Hick's Lake Bluejay

I had to try my new Golden Iridescent paint. It's definitely something different and I will try again. I know my iPhone photos are not the best, but here's the iridescent experiment. I wanted to feel the tree canopy overhead with the light shimmering through.

Acrylic on canvas, 16x20 inches.

The Columbia Valley trees

Acrylic, these cedars are thinner than coastal ones but they still danced in the breeZe. 16x20

Art on the Farm-2016

Mini Paintings

I found these adorable canvasses and mini easels so I had to try something new. These are 6x4 inches and are in acrylic.

And a couple more.

Fraser Valley Tulips

Acrylic on canvas

First Pear

Another product at Anne and Stuart's garden- pears! Small acrylic on canvas, 8x10 (I think)

This is better! Green Figs!

I had to take a new picture since the other picture didn't show the colours accurately.

Victoria's Beauty

My original memory of this wonderful spot is romance. It's a place where my good friend got married. I love painting places I've been, and places where I feel peace. This is that perfect happy place!

Acrylic 10x10 deep canvas exhibition mount.

Green Figs

I had to capture one of my fave local fruits in a painting. My photography is off my old iPhone, so the greens aren't as green as in the original. Acrylic, 9x12 canvas board.

Dreaming of Wisteria

Without a doubt, Anne and Stuart's garden is like a dreamland! I was inspired to paint their Wisteria again.
16x20 acrylic

Dinosaurs and Dragons

The kids did the backgrounds after I had masked off a section. Once dry, I outlined the masked off section and made whimsical creatures. What fun!

Garden roses

The roses from my garden--chalk pastel 8x10.

Ocean waves practice piece

So I learned by studying waves every chance I get. I love them!

Sunday 17 April 2016

Anne and Stuart's Wisteria

Their garden is the most gorgeous in the neighbourhood! They have the best flowers.

Friday 15 April 2016

Fraser Valley Tulips

Another acrylic with my new paints (professional quality from Opus), moulding paste and a heavy gel medium.

Purple Haze

This was an experimental piece to test new paints, moulding paste and gel mediums. I was pleasantly surprised

Hicks Lake Waterfall

This chalk pastel is a quiet little point where I sat in peace. I remember the chatter of squirrels, birds and the soft sound of the waterfall. I tried to capture this softness with the light and the use of chalk, one of the softest mediums.

Vicariously Lost

This is a tribute to the indigenous women and girls who have suffered brutality. As I painted, the woman was to represent those who were lost, but as I painted she transitioned to reflect both the lost and those who remain searching for answers and continue to suffer losses each day. The backdrop of this painting is a collage of various violence sections of the criminal code including rape, murder and assaults. I have also included the more recent criminal code amendments to show the muted, yet increasingly heard, voices of the families that are transitioning from murmurs to the public domain. The aurora in the background is a forever dancing image shifting and moving. It represents hope through light transitioning from the darkest point of the night.

This is currently on display at the O'Conner Art Gallery, Chilliwack Cultural Centre until March 29, 2016.

Mixed media: Acrylic, collage and glitter- 3x3 feet

Sechelt Tidal Pools No. 2

I was debating if I could do Art Battle- a painting battle with a few other artists with spectators. Each artist is limited to 20 minutes to produce a piece.

Here's what I did in 22 minutes. I tried for 20 but ran out of time before I could do a couple more strokes. Not bad for a first attempt at a timed piece.
