This chalk pastel is a quiet little point where I sat in peace. I remember the chatter of squirrels, birds and the soft sound of the waterfall. I tried to capture this softness with the light and the use of chalk, one of the softest mediums.
Here are a few of my pieces. As a child, I loved painting and sketching. However, many years passed and I almost forgot how much I loved creating things. It was my dear husband who encouraged me to start drawing and painting again. He even brought me to Julie-Ann's Art Store to frame a few of my old pieces from high school. Julie-Ann's had art classes. What luck! I signed up. Since that day, a year and a half ago, my muse has returned--Anna Tosso, April 2013

Vicariously Lost
This is a tribute to the indigenous women and girls who have suffered brutality. As I painted, the woman was to represent those who were lost, but as I painted she transitioned to reflect both the lost and those who remain searching for answers and continue to suffer losses each day. The backdrop of this painting is a collage of various violence sections of the criminal code including rape, murder and assaults. I have also included the more recent criminal code amendments to show the muted, yet increasingly heard, voices of the families that are transitioning from murmurs to the public domain. The aurora in the background is a forever dancing image shifting and moving. It represents hope through light transitioning from the darkest point of the night.
This is currently on display at the O'Conner Art Gallery, Chilliwack Cultural Centre until March 29, 2016.

Sechelt Tidal Pools No. 2
I was debating if I could do Art Battle- a painting battle with a few other artists with spectators. Each artist is limited to 20 minutes to produce a piece.
Here's what I did in 22 minutes. I tried for 20 but ran out of time before I could do a couple more strokes. Not bad for a first attempt at a timed piece.

Lil' Guy
It's amazing to think how children grow so fast. This lil' guy is no longer little. He's a 6 foot tall big guy now. But I will always remember him as the fun loving adventurous little boy! Oxoxox!!!

Pumpkin Patch Time
For the Chilliwack Art Centre's 5th Anniversary, I painted with many talented local artists. It was a great event that brought together many in the Arts Community- painters, potters, singers, dancers musicians etc.
We are so fortunate that arts in Chilliwack have such a modern and wonderful building!
My piece was a 16x20 inch acrylic, which is still a work in progress. It's coming along.

Granville Island House Boats and Yoga
I finally finished this acrylic painting of Granville Island's house boats-- as I saw them when I was riding in the little commuter ferry around Granville Island and English Bay. I started it around the time of the great Yoga debate which was when some wanted to close Burratd St. Bridge for a yoga session. Coincidentally this Session would have been at the same time as National Aboriginal Day. It was cancelled. Given Vanvouver's yoga scene is now more about business, rather than meditation, I had to work that in--12x24 acrylic on canvas
