Fraser Valley Tulips

Another acrylic with my new paints (professional quality from Opus), moulding paste and a heavy gel medium.

Purple Haze

This was an experimental piece to test new paints, moulding paste and gel mediums. I was pleasantly surprised

Hicks Lake Waterfall

This chalk pastel is a quiet little point where I sat in peace. I remember the chatter of squirrels, birds and the soft sound of the waterfall. I tried to capture this softness with the light and the use of chalk, one of the softest mediums.

Vicariously Lost

This is a tribute to the indigenous women and girls who have suffered brutality. As I painted, the woman was to represent those who were lost, but as I painted she transitioned to reflect both the lost and those who remain searching for answers and continue to suffer losses each day. The backdrop of this painting is a collage of various violence sections of the criminal code including rape, murder and assaults. I have also included the more recent criminal code amendments to show the muted, yet increasingly heard, voices of the families that are transitioning from murmurs to the public domain. The aurora in the background is a forever dancing image shifting and moving. It represents hope through light transitioning from the darkest point of the night.

This is currently on display at the O'Conner Art Gallery, Chilliwack Cultural Centre until March 29, 2016.

Sechelt Tidal Pools No. 2

I was debating if I could do Art Battle- a painting battle with a few other artists with spectators. Each artist is limited to 20 minutes to produce a piece.

Here's what I did in 22 minutes. I tried for 20 but ran out of time before I could do a couple more strokes. Not bad for a first attempt at a timed piece.
